In order to truly change the world, you need to know what is out there. You'll need to meet who is out there. If you want to change the world, you'll need to be willing to change yourself and challenge yourself by building community and expanding your perspectives on an adventure unlike anything you have experienced before. Think you're up to the challenge? Pack your bags and step out of your comfort zone!
Experience a New Perspective
Some of the best lessons in life come through experiences. Books and classrooms are great, but they can't compare to actually reaching out and impacting the world in front of you. That's what Alternative Breaks are all about. You could sit on a couch for a week and sleep after your term, or you could pack your bag and learn about community by living in one. This isn't just learning about the change happening in the world, it's about being a part of it. After you've spent a week or so in the thick of things, you'll return to the flock with a new view of the world, stories of perspectives completely different than your own, and energy to better our commmunities. It's hard to capture in words just how impactful these trips are; we suggest you find out for yourself.
Participate in the Process
Preparing for your first year at UO can be daunting, especially if you are looking to grow as a leader. You don't have the same connections and communities that you had before. But don't let that stop you from stepping up and becoming a leader. WILD will connect you with Ducks just like you who are looking to join the flock and find their passions. After traveling on foot through the Cascade wilderness for a week, you will arrive at the UO with new experiences and connections with other Ducks that will help you succeed. This isn't about racing to the top of the mountain. It's about building a community that will challenge and connect you to what it means to lead as a Duck.
